Applying for Registered Charitable Status

MITARCS is preparing an application to the Canada Revenue Agency for registered charitable status. Registration would allow the Society to issue official donation receipts and pursue grants from foundations and programs that fund registered charities.
We are reviewing our purposes, governance, financial procedures and planned activities to ensure that the application accurately reflects our work. Charitable status would provide a stronger financial foundation for Indigenous arts, heritage, education, cultural exchange and reconciliation initiatives.
Vancouver Foundation Transforming Systems Grant

MITARCS’s Stage 1 application to the Vancouver Foundation Transforming Systems Grant has been accepted, and we have been invited to complete Stage 2. This means the proposal has advanced for further consideration. Funding has not yet been awarded.
The proposed three-year initiative would advance reconciliation on SḴŦAḴ / Mayne Island by bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together around practical shared work. The proposal is being developed around food sovereignty and cultural exchange, community conversations and storytelling, and collaborative stewardship of land and water.
Stage 2 requires further detail about partnerships, activities, governance, outcomes, budget and how the work could contribute to lasting systemic change.
